Victor Osimhen and Lautaro Martinez to go head-to-head

Super Eagles star Victor Osimhen could put daylight between him and Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez in the battle for Capocannoniere this weekend. 

Osimhen currently leads the race in this season’s Serie A top scorers’ charts, having scored 23 goals for Napoli. 

The Super Eagles star’s goals helped Napoli win their first league title in Italy’s top flight for the first time since 1990. 

However, Osimhen could still end up without the top scorer award this season, as he is just three ahead of Lautaro Martinez. 

Osimhen appeared to be cruising initially, but Martinez picked up form at the business end of the season, scoring six goals in his last five matches for Inter Milan. 

Nonetheless, Osimhen can move clear of Martinez this weekend as Napoli host Inter Milan in their Serie A clash at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium. 

Osimhen was initially a doubt for the match due to illness, but the Nigerian rejoined the rest of his teammates for training on Thursday. 

With just three games left in the Italian top flight this season, Osimhen will be eager to score in the match. Napoli should also be fired up for the encounter, as Inter Milan are the only side they have not beaten in the league this season. 

The Neapolitans suffered their first defeat in the league this season at the hands of Simone Inzaghi’s men. 

Spalletti’s men will be looking for revenge in the match as they look to celebrate their league title with a win in their penultimate home game of the season.
