Uganda Bombers enter camp ahead of Africa Boxing Championships
Head coach Twaibu Mayanja is impressed with the team's fitness levels ahead of the Yaoundé Cameroon invasion from July 25 to August 6.
"Their fitness level is good, and we're only polishing, and they will be ready by July 23," Mayanja said about the 11 male and six female boxers.
"They have all been competitive in the Uganda Champions League, which kept them in good shape and health," he added.
Skipper Joshua Tukamuhebwa reiterated: "The whole camp is motivated to give their best in the upcoming championships."
Tukamuhebwa will lead a team that also has Ukasha Matovu, a welterweight silver medalist at the 2018 AFBC Youth Championships, Idriss Mukiibi (light-heavyweight) and Solomon Geko (super-heavyweight)
The rest of the newcomers are minimumweight Joseph Kalema, lightweight Ssali Wasswa, light-middleweight Muzamir Semmudu, middleweight Ronald Okello, cruiserweight Lawrence Kayiwa and super-heavyweight James Baraka.
Women debutants are light-flyweight Grace Nakinga, bantamweight Naddia Najjeme, featherweight Sharua Ndagire, lightweight Zahara Nandawula and light-welter Erina Namutebi.
In last year's Africa Championships in Maputo, Uganda finished joint 15th overall alongside Guinea, with both countries securing two bronze medals.
