Tusker FC have started the season in poor fashion after failing to record a win in any of their four games, a major setback for a team with title ambitions.

The brewers take on Murang’a Seal on Sunday under immense pressure and coach Charles Okere could find his position under threat if they finish matchday five without a win.

Tusker started the season with a 2-0 loss to KCB, managed by their former coach Robert Matano, before losing 2-1 to Posta Rangers and then a goalless draw with Mathare United followed by a 1-1 stalemate with Shabana FC.

That has left them in 17th position on the 18-team table with just two points, already eight behind leaders Posta Rangers, an unfamiliar position for Kenya’s second most successful club, who have 13 league titles.

However, new signing Denis Iguma feels things could be different if the senior players stepped up to the plate and hopes this can begin on Sunday against Murang’a Seal.

Tusker Midfielder Issues Rallying Call to Team-mates

“These things happen in football and I have been in this situation several times,” the Ugandan midfielder told Telecomasia.net. “But I believe it is up to us the senior players to help guide the team, especially the young players to navigate through this process.”

“I believe we have shown great signs of improvement especially in the last two games and if you look at the games we lost, we created so many scoring chances. I believe in a matter of time we will get our footing right and start picking positive results,” added Iguma, sounding an optimistic tone.

Amid the turmoil, Iguma has been one of the outstanding players within the Tusker squad and he remains optimistic that he will maintain the good form as he looks to earn a new contract at the club given his current deal runs out at the end of the year.

“I have my dreams and targets which I hope to achieve. It would be great for me if I win something with Tusker because that is the reason I joined this team,” he added.

“I believe if we put in some good effort and keep believing, this season can end up with a trophy. We have a very good team with young, ambitious players,” the former Ugandan international further said.
