‘They Need a Strong Coach Like Pitso’ - Kaizer Chiefs Advised to Hijack Mosimane from Mamelodi Sundowns
Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Tsepo Masilela has advised his ex-club to go for veteran coach Pitso Mosimane if they want to return to their glory days.
Chiefs have been struggling on the pitch with no league title since 2015 and qualification for continental competitions has also become a challenge in recent seasons.
So bad has it been that Chiefs have failed to finish in the top eight in the last two seasons and even this term, they are still going through an inconsistent run of form although there have been some improvements.
The Soweto giants are currently under co-coaches Cedric Kaze and Khalil Ben Youssef who were handed the job until the end of the season after their boss Nasreddine Nabi left but they have won just four of their 14 games and drawn eight.
That has left fans calling for changes in the dugout and Masilela feels the Glamour Boys need a coach who understands the South African league and is also a serial winner that can elevate the standards quickly like Mosimane, who has been linked with a return to Mamelodi Sundowns in recent weeks.
Mosimane Backed for Kaizer Chiefs Job
“They need a strong coach, a manager like coach Pitso. Someone like that, I know how he manages,” Masilela said on SoccerBeat. “Then you need to be patient, you cannot get coach Pitso and expect him to close the gap between Chiefs and Pirates, Sundowns in the first year.”
“Pirates and Sundowns are the high fliers right now so you need to know when you get to Kaizer Chiefs, it might be a case of No.3 is good enough but I want to see progress,” he added.
“Next season, are you getting to No.2, same as coach Jose [Riveiro], when he got here with [Orlando] Pirates. The first year, he finished around 52 points, next season you get to 58 points, we can see there is progress. A coach moving in the right direction and maybe, coach Pitso would do this.”
Mosimane is currently without a job since leaving Iranian giants Esteghlal FC in January 2025 and has been strongly linked with a return to Sundowns.
