“There’s always pressure” - Gyokeres reacts to critics following brace against Leeds
The Swedish forward scored his first two goals for Arsenal and was very pleased with his performance and the thrashing of Leeds.
After a forgettable Arsenal debut, Viktor Gyokeres answered his critics in his second match with a brace in Arsenal's 5-0 thrashing of Leeds, stating it was only a matter of time before he scored his first goal.
What Gyokeres said
“Of course, I’m very happy with the result. It was also great to score two goals. There’s always pressure. I know that sooner or later, I will take my chances. We won 5-0, so it was a fantastic day,” he began, speaking after the final whistle, as reported by Abola.
“It was a short pre-season for me, without many weeks of training... It was important for me to play 90 minutes, get into the rhythm, and get to know the team even better during this game,” he explained, discussing his first goal, a signature move often seen during his time at Sporting.
“I felt more comfortable with how we are playing, and I think that’s visible. I feel comfortable when the ball comes from behind and I cut inside. I know I’ll take the chance when I get it. We have so many incredible players in attack. For me, it’s important to be in the right place,” he said, shifting focus to the next match despite the strong start.
“It’s tough. Every team we play against wants to challenge us. We have to prepare for each game as best as we can, but we have a fantastic squad, we train well, and we work hard every day. We’ve started well, with two wins, two clean sheets, and a lot of goals scored. I think we’re on the right track, but we can always do better and improve,” he concluded.
“There’s a lot to be excited about. It was a very positive afternoon to start the season at home. You could immediately feel the energy, which had gone up a level, and that’s what we were looking for.
"The team played very well, with a lot of confidence. We created many chances and didn't concede. Five goals and a clean sheet is a very good start,” said a pleased Arteta about Gyokeres's performance.
“Viktor [Gyökeres] is very powerful and determined in his actions, and you can see that when he has space, he can take on opponents. We have the ability to score in various ways.
"I’m very happy for Viktor to have scored his first two goals and for Jurrien [Timber] as well, for his two goals after such a long injury and a lot of hard work. Then, the other debuts for Mosquera and Max Dowman, at just 15 years old, were certainly special,” he added.
