Timber opened the scoring at the Emirates Stadium with a header in the 34th minute. Just before halftime, he set up Bukayo Saka to smash the ball high into the near corner for the 2-0.
In the second half, Viktor Gyökeres added the third for the London side. After the ball was kept alive from a corner, Timber tapped in for 4-0. Gyökeres sealed the final score in extra time with a converted penalty.
The former Ajax player scored twice in Arsenal's emphatic 5-0 victory over Leeds United on Saturday. The support he had in the stands made it all the more special.
Timber speaks after scoring brace
After the match, Timber was interviewed on the pitch by Sky Sports, via Sportal. He called it "a beautiful first home game of the season."
He added, "You could feel the energy from the crowd. A special day, scoring twice and getting an assist. I'm going to enjoy this. My family is here too, my brother, my girlfriend, and a few friends."
Thanks in part to Timber's goals, Arsenal sits atop the Premier League with 6 points from two matches. City rivals Tottenham Hotspur have the same number of points but an inferior goal difference. Spurs secured an impressive 2-0 victory away at Manchester City on Saturday afternoon.
However, it wasn't all smiles for Arsenal. Manager Mikel Arteta saw captain Martin Ødegaard forced off with an injury in the first half. Goalscorer Saka also left the field in pain. Next week, The Gunners face champions Liverpool.
Prior to the match, the club announced the signing of Eberechi Eze from Crystal Palace for a reported €70 million. The 27-year-old England international has signed a long-term contract.
