‘There is something there’ — Worried Slavia Prague coach reacts to Super Eagles star’s injury
Slavia Prague head coach Jindřich Trpišovský has expressed concern over the fitness of Nigerian defender Igoh Ogbu after the Super Eagles star was forced off during their opening league match.
Ogbu limped off just nine minutes into the second half of their 2-2 draw against Hradec Králové, leaving the defending champions with more questions than answers to start the 2025/2026 Chance Liga season.
Ogbu's early exit raises concern ahead of further scan
The timing could not be worse for Slavia Prague, who are trying to find early momentum in their title defense.
Igoh Ogbu, a vital presence at the heart of their defense and a recent contract extension recipient, had to be replaced shortly after the restart, which ultimately disrupted Slavia’s rhythm. Coach Trpišovský confirmed after the match that the club is awaiting MRI results to determine the severity of the issue.
“The first information is that there is something there, he had a finding on the ultrasound, but we will be smarter after the MRI,” Trpišovský told the club’s official website.
Initial assessments suggest a potential hamstring issue, but nothing is confirmed. Ogbu's importance to Slavia’s system, both in the domestic campaign and upcoming European fixtures, makes this injury a major cause for concern.
Slavia feel impact of Ogbu's absence
Ogbu’s substitution had an immediate impact. His replacement, David Zima, struggled to maintain cohesion in the backline, which eventually led to Hradec Králové grabbing a late equaliser.
Slavia now sit ninth on the league table with only a point, and pressure is already mounting ahead of their next clash against Bohemians Prague.
The coaching staff and fans alike will hope for good news from the MRI, as a long-term absence could significantly derail the club’s early-season plans.
