Owino has not played since limping off during Gor Mahia’s 3-1 win over Ulinzi Stars on March 15, missing their last five games, but he is now back and available for selection.

In his absence, Gor Mahia have relied on Frank Odhiambo and Michael Kibwage at centre-back during a period in which they have won two matches, drawn as many and lost one, and he now hopes to play a part in the final five games of the season as they look to reclaim the league title that they last won in 2024.

“I have been training on the side but now I am fully back in team training. Thank God now I am fully back in team training and I hope to help the team fight in the remaining matches to make sure we get the title,” Owino told the club’s media.

Gor Mahia Defender Oozing Confidence

“When you are a player and [you are] up there, you know the pressure and also wanting to be on that pitch. But generally, it wasn’t bad, I saw my teammates fighting and I was happy. Although in some matches, we did not get the results we wanted, I am glad we are still there, hanging on and fighting for the remaining matches.”

Gor Mahia’s next match is away to fourth-placed Kakamega Homeboyz who are known to frustrate opponents at their backyard and while he acknowledges it will not be easy, Owino has confident that his team will get maximum points.

“We want to try and fight for as many points as possible. If possible, all 15 from the five matches, but we will take one game at a time,” he added while reflecting on Sunday’s match.

“It is not going to be easy because they are also fighting to be in a good position. So we are going to face stiff competition but we are ready to make sure we go there, take the points and focus on the next game.”
