Super Eagles star lost for words after being DESTROYED by Chelsea wonderkid dubbed 'new Lamine Yamal'
Super Eagles of Nigeria defender Calvin Bassey didn’t have much to say after being tormented by Chelsea’s new Brazilian wonderkid Estevao Willian, also nicknamed ‘Messinho’.
What’s the gossip?
It all began with a short message on Snapchat.
A fan wrote to Super Eagles striker Tolu Arokodare: “Nor be small dribble that small Chelsea Estevao one use Bassey eye see on Saturday haha.”
The message referred to Chelsea’s 2–0 win over Fulham in the Premier League on August 30.
During the game, Brazilian teenager Estevao faced Nigeria defender Calvin Bassey one on one.
Estevao’s quick feet left Bassey beaten, and clips of the moment went viral on X.
A dribbler that decelerates unbalances his opponent and then accelerates at the right time. Watch Estevao's eyes, fixed firmly on Bassey's feet, takes stutter steps to slow down, making Bassey slow down and boom one touch acceleration past him pic.twitter.com/vtW5PM83Z7

Arokodare, who signed for Wolves on deadline day, reposted the fan’s comment and tagged Bassey on Snap.
His caption read: “Calvin Nwachukwu. Come and defend yourself here o lol.” before Bassey replied with a single word: “Chaiii.”
The Super Eagles defender now needs to put the online jokes aside.
Nigeria cannot afford mistakes in the qualifiers as all focus must be on Rwanda and South Africa.
Super Eagles look ahead
For the Super Eagles, attention now shifts to the World Cup qualifiers.
Nigeria will face Rwanda on September 6, at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo.
Three days later they travel to South Africa for another must-win game, as only one team from the group will qualify directly.
Estevao’s fast rise at Chelsea
Estevao Willian joined Chelsea in 2025 when he turned 18.
He became the youngest player to start a Premier League match for the club in more than a decade, and the youngest player ever to register an assist for Chelsea in Premier League, at 18.
The former Palmeiras star impressed on his full debut against West Ham.
Estevao has also drawn comparisons to Barcelona’s teenage superstar Lamine Yamal, due to their playing style.
Spanish pundit Axel Torres said Estevao could become one of the most exciting rivals to the Spanish teenager.
"This doesn't mean that I think he's going to be better than Lamine, or that I'm sure he'll be the second best," Axel Torres said as per Cadena SER.
Torres added that " he's the player who generates the most things," especially because "he's very daring."
Carlo Ancelotti showed his faith in him by starting him for Brazil in his first match as coach back in June.
And on Friday, September 5, Estevao carried his form into international duty.
He scored a bicycle kick in Brazil’s 3–0 win over Chile in a World Cup qualifier.
