Super Eagles forward nominated for club award in Germany
Super Eagles winger Nathan Tella is in contention for Bayer Leverkusen's Goal of the Month award for January following his impressive performances in the Bundesliga.
Tella's stunning strike against Borussia Dortmund in Leverkusen's 3-2 victory at Signal Iduna Park has earned him a nomination.
Just 25 seconds into the match, Tella capitalised on a defensive error by Dortmund, firing a powerful shot past goalkeeper Gregor Kobel8. Edmond Tapsoba won a header that set up Tella for the goal.
The goal was Tella's first Bundesliga goal of the season. The Nigerian is competing against Alejandro Grimaldo (vs 1. FSV Mainz 05), Florian Wirtz (vs Borussia M'Gladbach), and Patrik Schick (vs RB Leipzig) for the award.
This nomination comes on the heels of Tella's first UEFA Champions League goal, which he scored in a 2-0 victory over Sparta Praha.
Just two years ago, Tella was competing in England’s second tier football. The goal against Sparta Praha was his third of the season for the German champions.
