Super Eagles assistant coach escapes tragedy by minutes as restaurant collapses in Lagos

Daniel Ogunmodede, the assistant coach of the Super Eagles and head coach of Remo Stars, narrowly escaped a tragic incident when a building housing Equal Rights restaurant and bar in Ojodu Berger, Lagos, collapsed on Saturday morning.

According to Ogunmodede, he was scheduled to be at the restaurant but was delayed at his hotel, a delay that ultimately saved his life.

The collapse occurred around 8 a.m. on Oremeta Street, catching occupants and visitors by surprise and resulting in multiple casualties as emergency teams and residents launched frantic search and rescue operations to pull survivors from the rubble.

The exact number of casualties remains unclear, but the incident has been described as devastating.

Ogunmodede shared a video of the collapsed building, sent to journalist Mike the Pundit, highlighting how close he was to being caught in the disaster. Fortunately, his delay meant he avoided the tragedy entirely.

Despite this harrowing experience, Ogunmodede remains focused on his duties as Remo Stars prepare to face Shooting Stars in Ibadan.

The Sky Blues are currently leading the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) with a six-point advantage and five games remaining in their quest for their first-ever league title.

Remo, under Ogunmodede’s guidance, have been in excellent form this season, boasting one of the best home records in the league and aiming to secure the NPFL crown after finishing as runners-up in the previous two seasons.
