Some fans weren't happy to see the world number one competing at Wimbledon.

After his convincing victory over Novak Djokovic on Friday, Italian tennis star Jannik Sinner set his sights on his first Wimbledon title, which he ultimately secured, adding to his collection of Grand Slam trophies.

The 23-year-old was looking to avenge his painful French Open final loss to his Spanish rival, and he did just that.

However, his participation at Roland Garros was controversial, as it was his first tournament after serving a three-month doping suspension.

Now, one of his most vocal critics from that period has spoken out again.

Nick Kyrgios, who commented on the men's final, renewed his sharp criticism of Sinner, and also targeted Iga Swiatek, who also served a doping suspension in 2024.

He argued that Sinner should have received a two-year ban, "The end of the day, the decision was made, and it's in the past now. Do I think it's a good look for tennis that Iga Swiatek and Sinner are in the Wimbledon finals after serving bans? I don't think that's a great image for the sport. And I think a lot of people would agree," Kyrgios said

However, the fiery Australian denied that he would take a negative tone while commentating on the match, adding, "I'm not going to sit there and harp on about it during the final. They're playing incredible tennis."

“Sinner served his ban, which I disagree with. But he’s back, and he's playing unbelievably. It didn’t look like he lost a step; if anything, it looked like he improved during that time, which is impressive no matter the reason for the ban.”

Ironically, Swiatek, who served a one-year ban last November, claimed her maiden Wimbledon title on Saturday, routing Amanda Anisimova 6-0, 6-0. The match lasted just 57 minutes on Centre Court.
