'See Brother Bernard' - Fans troll Van Dijk as Liverpool survive against late Spurs scare to keep Top 4 hopes alive
Liverpool managed to record a 4-3 victory against Tottenham Hotspur in a seven-goal thriller at Anfield on Sunday evening, April 30, in the Premier League.
Following Spurs resilient comeback against Manchester United last week, the Lilywhites were hoping to also get a result against Jurgen Klopp's revitalized Reds.
However, Ryan Mason's side witnessed a nightmare disaster of a start at Anfield in what was a chaotic and humiliating 15 minutes for Spurs.
Curtis Jones gave the hosts an early lead 3 minutes into the game, before Luis Diaz latched home after an assist b Cody Gakpo just two minutes later.
Spurs looked disorganized and could find no real answer to the hosts who soon found a third goal after a penalty was awarded to the Reds.
Mohamed Salah stepped up and made no mistake against Fraser Foster as Liverpool already looked destined to collect all three points before the 20th minute mark.
However, similar to what happened against Man United last week, the Lilywhites had to really dig deep to stage a comeback.
Some fine work by Ivan Perisic was finished off by Harry Kane in the 39th minute to give Spurs a lifeline as both teams headed into the break with Liverpool holding on to a two-goal advantage at half time.
Second Half: Spurs complete the comeback vs Liverpool but collapse at the death
The second 45 minutes was as entertaining as the first as it rained goals as well.
However, Liverpool nearly blew away their 2-goal lead again as Heung Min Son fired home in the 77th minute to slash the deficit, before second half substitute Richarlison thought he completed the comeback with a crucial goal in the 93rd minute of stoppage time.
But Jurgen Klopp's men's resilience proved fatal for the visitors as Diogo Jota almost immediately fired home to seal a dramatic win for the Merseyside Reds who have now leapfrogged Tottenham on the Premier League summit and are now seven points off fourth-placed Manchester United.
Social Media Reactions: Liverpool 4-3 Tottenham Hotspur
Following the crucial win for Liverpool against Tottenham on Sunday evening, fans have taken to social media to react to a viral highlight from the game.
Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk was sent straight to the cleaners by Ivan Perisic in the 38th minute in the build-up to Harry Kane's first-half goal, and football fans have taken to social media to troll the Netherlands centre back in epic fashion despite his team's victory on Sunday evening.
