The NBA has made yet another significant trade involving a Western Conference team.
In a three-team transaction that also brought Zach LaVine from the Chicago Bulls to the Sacramento Kings, the San Antonio Spurs acquired point guard De'Aaron Fox.
Spurs trade for Fox
The Spurs acquired point guard Jordan McLaughlin in addition to Fox.
LaVine, Sidy Cissoko, three first-round draft selections (2025, 2027, 2031), and three second-round selections (2025 and two in 2028) were all acquired by the Kings.
Tre Jones, Kevin Huerter, Zach Collins, and the Bulls' own 2025 first-round pick—which had previously been with the Kings—were all acquired.
The 27-year-old Fox had been thinking about leaving the Kings, even though he still had two years left on his deal.
The team's front management had met with Fox's agent, Rich Paul, to talk about his career goals.
The reports stressed that even though there was no formal trade request, there was a rising chance that Fox would turn down a contract extension for him, particularly given the front office's difficulties in assembling a strong lineup.
