Ruben Amorim: Why Sacked Manager Will Continue Earning Multi-Million Pay From Man United

Manchester United may have sacked coach Ruben Amorim but according to reports, the Portuguese tactician will continue earning from the club until his contract expires in 2027.

Amorim is the latest high-profile coach to fail at Old Trafford, having lasted just 14 months during a period when he oversaw United’s worst run of results in nearly 50 years.

Club legend Darren Fletcher will take over on an interim basis as a permanent replacement is sought but according to transfer news guru Fabrizio Romano, United will continue paying Amorim for the remainder of his contract.

“Revealed: Ruben Amorim remains under contract until June 2027 at Manchester United,” Romano wrote on Instagram. “The decision today [Monday] was not mutual, he didn’t quit or decide to part ways — as it was 100% club’s decision."

“Amorim’s contract remains valid for 18 months unless there’s new club to appoint him in the meantime,” he added.

That means Amorim is due payment for the remainder of his deal as he did not walk away from the job but it is United who sought to bring an end to his tumultuous tenure.

Amorim is reported to have been earning £6.5 million per year at United and that means he is entitled to at least £10 million for the 18 months that were still remaining on his contract.

United had already shelled out £11million in compensation to Sporting CP when they hired Amorim midseason in November 2024, to release him from his contract, and will now pay just above that sum to sack him and his backroom staff.

Amorim will therefore continue earning until his deal expires of when he finds a new job, whatever comes first.
