REVEALED: Why Gor Mahia continues to upstage corporate-owned FKFPL moneybags despite financial constraints
Former Gor Mahia striker Enock Agwanda has offered key insights into the club's unique culture, which has kept them at the summit of the FKF Premier League despite financial constraints.
Speaking on a recent episode of The Exit Show on YouTube, Agwanda highlighted the mentality that sets Gor Mahia apart from corporate-backed rivals like Tusker and KCB.

"When you go to Gor, there's a different mentality. It's all about winning, and you have to work hard, even a draw doesn’t satisfy them," said Agwanda, who joined the 21-time champions in 2015.
Unlike corporate-owned clubs, Gor Mahia operates as a community team with deep-rooted values of resilience and determination.
This structure is also associated with clubs like rivals AFC Leopards and Shabana.
Agwanda, who also had a stint with KCB, emphasized that Gor Mahia's focus remains unwavering regardless of financial struggles.
"I can tell you for a fact that whether the money is there or not, Gor is all about the win. I stayed at the club for one and a half years, and I can confidently say the winning mentality is different," he noted.
The striker recalled a moment when the players went on strike over unpaid salaries, only to be convinced by the chairman with unfulfilled promises.
Despite the financial turmoil, the team regrouped and secured a victory the next day at Nyayo Stadium.
"The level at Gor is different. There is no team you can compare to Gor in terms of mentality," Agwanda added.
This winning culture, according to the FKFPL veteran, has fueled Gor Mahia’s continued success.
The club, with 21 league titles to its name, is currently in pursuit of a record-extending 22nd championship.
Following their recent 0-0 draw against AFC Leopards in the Mashemeji Derby, they sit third on the league table with 43 points, trailing leaders Kenya Police (48 points) and second-placed Tusker (47 points).
