REPORT: Manchester United find potential Andre Onana replacement in LaLiga

Andre Onana's mixed time at Manchester United could be coming to an end as the Red Devils seek a LaLiga-based goalkeeper to replace the Cameroonian. 

According to Fichajes, the 13-time Premier League champions are interested in signing Unai Simon, the Athletic Club and Spain goalkeeper, as a potential replacement for Onana. 

Simon is highly regarded and has impressed with his performances for Athletic Bilbao and the national team, recently playing a pivotal role in La Roja’s Euro 2024 success. 

The rumour states that United are prepared to offer a significant sum to acquire his services, even if the 27-year-old’s contract, which has five more years to run, would likely require a substantial fee.

Any move for the Euro 2024 winner puts Onana’s future at risk, with the 2023 signing conceding 63 Premier League goals in 41 matches since making his top-flight debut. 

Simon has yet to feature this season for Lehoiak, after wrist surgery following Spain’s European Championship triumph. 

His club have struggled in his absence, keeping one clean sheet in four LaLiga games heading into September 15's fixture at Las Palmas. 

As for Manchester United, a difficult start has seen Erik ten Hag's men lose two of their opening three league fixtures, including a 3-0 loss to fierce rivals Liverpool before the international break.

The Red Devils travel to new boys Southampton on September 14, seeking a return to winning ways.
