PSG Increase Offer for Bournemouth Defender Amid Manchester United Links

French giants Paris Saint-Germain are prepared to submit an improved offer for Bournemouth defender Illia Zabarnyi.

The Ukrainian international is one of the European champions' primary transfer targets.

According to Fabrizio Romano, PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi is personally involved in the negotiations, highlighting the importance of the deal for the French club. PSG view Zabarnyi's acquisition as key to their current transfer window activity.

Previous reports suggested PSG offered €60 million for Zabarnyi, but Bournemouth are holding out for €70 million. This led to a temporary stalemate in the negotiations.

Zabarnyi joined Bournemouth in January 2023. Last season, he made 39 appearances across all competitions. His contract with the English club runs until the summer of 2029.

Andoni Iraola’s Bournemouth enjoyed a landmark 2024/25 season, finishing ninth in the Premier League and making it to the FA Cup quarter-finals. But with success has come heightened attention on some of their standout players.

Dean Huijsen has already completed a return to Spain, joining Real Madrid in June, while Liverpool finally secured long-time target Milos Kerkez to bolster their left-back options.

Now, Bournemouth could be facing another major departure. According to Football Insider, both Paris Saint-Germain and Tottenham Hotspur are showing strong interest in Illia Zabarnyi, who has become a key defensive target for both clubs.

Amid the growing speculation, Zabarnyi gave fans a glimpse into his current whereabouts, sharing an Instagram story from Chicago, Illinois.

The Ukrainian defender appears to be enjoying some downtime before pre-season ramps up.

Bournemouth are set to kick off their participation in the Premier League Summer Series in the U.S., with their opening match scheduled against Everton at the MetLife Stadium on July 26. Zabarnyi is expected to be involved, at least for the short term.

However, his long-term future remains uncertain. Football Insider reports that Tottenham are intensifying their pursuit, with a bid of around £60 million likely to be enough to sway Bournemouth into selling.

Since joining the Cherries in 2023, Zabarnyi has become a mainstay in Iraola’s back line, registering 36 Premier League appearances last season.

With Huijsen already gone and Zabarnyi potentially following, Bournemouth seem to be planning for significant changes in defence. Reports suggest the club is eyeing a move for Udinese’s Thomas Kristensen as a potential replacement.

However, they may face stiff competition. Wolves—who had a £12 million bid for the Danish centre-back turned down in January—have reportedly reignited their interest.

Serie A side Como are also believed to be in the race, which could prompt Bournemouth to act quickly if they want to secure his signature.
