President Ruto Fires Shots at Manchester United as Arsenal Impresses with Premier League Form
President William Samoei Ruto has aimed a dig at Manchester United fans while confidently declaring that Arsenal will finally lift the Premier League trophy this season.
The Head of State made the playful remarks during the English Premier League Trophy Tour event held at State House, Nairobi, where football fever met political banter in classic Kenyan style.
Ruto could not resist turning the occasion into a mini-press conference for football fans, poking fun at rival supporters while showing his unwavering loyalty to Arsenal.
The President’s light-hearted jabs had guests at State House in stitches, turning what could have been a formal event into an afternoon of laughter, nostalgia, and football talk.

The President confessed that being an Arsenal fan has been a long and sometimes painful journey, one filled with heartbreaks and close calls.
But in true optimistic fashion, Ruto reminded fans that the tides have turned, and that “the style, the swagger, the spirit” are back at the Emirates.
“As many of you know, I am a proud Arsenal fan. It's true that the last two decades have not been very easy for us; we have had our own share of heartbreaks and near misses, but if you have been watching Gunners lately, you know the style, the swagger, the spirit it is all coming alive again. To our friends in EPL and across Europe, watch out — Arsenal is back,” he said.
A Light Jab for the Red Devils
The President also turned sentimental when recalling the late moments he used to share football banter with late opposition leader Raila Odinga, another staunch Arsenal supporter.
“We lost one of our big Arsenal fans the Hon Raila Odinga. We really feel we lost someone who was always in the game with us. Whenever we were not discussing difficult stuff, we used to discuss how not well we are doing, but I am happy things are looking up.”
Then, just as the crowd thought the President was done, he delivered the knockout punch—directed squarely at Manchester United supporters.
“We sympathise with Manchester United, but it’s the nature of football,” he concluded, leaving the room roaring with laughter.
Arsenal on Top, United Struggling to Catch Up
Indeed, the numbers back him up. Arsenal currently top the Premier League table after eight matches, with six wins, one draw, and one loss, earning 19 points.
Manchester United, on the other hand, sit in ninth place with 13 points—something that gave Ruto all the ammunition he needed for his cheeky banter.
The President’s remarks came as the Premier League Trophy officially landed in Nairobi, courtesy of Guinness, the official beer sponsor of the league.
The trophy will be showcased on October 25th and 26th at Bar Next Door, Kiambu Road, where fans will gather for live match screenings, giveaways, and a chance to take photos with the legendary silverware.
If Ruto’s words are anything to go by, Arsenal fans across Kenya may soon have more than just hope—they might have a presidential prophecy to believe in.
And for Manchester United fans? Well, as the President said, “it’s just the nature of football.”
