Peseiro — ‘Our players have the quality to finish better’
José Peseiro has backed his players to improve their finishing, as he spoke exclusively to Pulse Sports ahead of Super Eagles’ Monday showdown against the Djurtus of Guinea-Bissau.
Wasteful Super Eagles Eagles clipped at home
Nigeria suffered their first-ever loss to Guinea Bissau, falling 1-0 at the Moshood Abiola Stadium in an AFCON 2023 qualifier.
The Super Eagles had 17 attempts, compared to a total of seven from the visitors, but could only get three shots on target and none into the net.
Ahead of the second leg at Estadio 24 de Septembro in Bissau, Peseiro believes that his side have the quality to finish off their chances.
“Our players have the quality to finish better, " he said while speaking to Pulse Sports at the pre-match conference in Bissau.
“For them, [they] need more concentration, more focus, and killer instincts for finishing. We have power enough, we have quality enough to beat Guinea-Bissau”, he added.
The players need killer instincts
The Super Eagles have some of the most in-form forwards in the world this season, but they could not find the net at home against the Djurtus.
Peseiro revealed that he has told his players to develop a killer instinct in front of goal.
“I spoke to my players; I told them you need more focus [and] more killer instincts. [If] you create 1,2,3,4 [chances], you must score”, he said.
The Super Eagles have an opportunity to get back on track, as a win against Guinea-Bissau will see them return to the top of Group A.
Nigerians will hope that they went to Bissau with their scoring boots and a killer instinct.
