Two weeks after her first-round exit at Wimbledon, Paula Badosa (27, WTA No. 10) provided an update on her condition, announcing she will be sidelined for several weeks due to a medical issue.
Paula Badosa has had a very challenging period, grappling with numerous medical setbacks and forced retirements from matches. Despite reaching the Australian Open semifinals and returning to the WTA top 10, the Spaniard hasn't been able to perform at her peak.
Paula Badosa suffers muscle tear in her back: "Thank you for the immense support."
At Wimbledon, Badosa was defeated 2-6, 6-3, 4-6 by Britain's Katie Boulter (28, WTA No. 41). Two weeks later, the 27-year-old announced she will be out of action for a period due to a tear in her psoas muscle, located in the lower back.
"Hi everyone. I've been offline for a while, but I wanted to give you an update on my current situation. I've been going through some very tough times lately," her statement read.
"Unfortunately, I've been dealing with a psoas muscle tear since before Wimbledon, and this will keep me away from competition for a few weeks.
"These are really challenging times for me, but I remain hopeful that things will turn around soon and I'll start to see the light at the end of the tunnel.
"Thank you for the immense support."
Badosa is also going through a difficult time personally. During Wimbledon, the Spanish press reported that the world No. 10 had split from Stefanos Tsitsipas (26, ATP No. 27), whom she had been dating since June 2023.
"The breakup was sudden. They both lost in the first round in London, and then it happened. It's an amicable split, with no third parties or family influence involved, as some have started to suggest," a source told the well-known Spanish magazine Hola.
