Jamie Carragher has ruled out Barcelona’s chances of winning the UEFA Champions League trophy this season, pointing directly to weaknesses in the team's defence.
Barcelona delivered a strong performance on Tuesday night, humiliating Olympiacos 6-1 at home with goals from like Fermín López, Lamine Yamal, and Marcus Rashford.
However, even with Hansi Flick’s side reaching the semi-final stage last season before being defeated by Inter Milan, Carragher remains unconvinced by their backline.
Carragher claims Barcelona will not win Champions League
Speaking on CBS Sports, the former defender insisted the team lacks the necessary defensive quality to conquer Europe.
“They [Barcelona] lost [the Champions League semi-final last season] through naivety, really, maybe having a lot of young players.

“When you look at the back four who played tonight [Koundé, Cubarsí, García and Balde], I’m not sure this back four can win the Champions League.”
Carragher elaborated on the tactical and personnel issues that make the team vulnerable.
“It is not just about playing with a high line, which gives them problems as well. Whenever you watch them, you always feel the opposition has a chance. It is not just how they set up tactically.
"I am not quite sure the defenders are good enough when they come up against a real elite team like Arsenal, PSG and Bayern Munich.”
