Ogun State expresses confidence in Local Runners ahead of Abeokuta Race

The former Commissioner for Youth and Sports in Ogun State, Bukola Olopade has expressed optimism that Nigerian runners will put up a strong performance against elite athletes in the upcoming Lotus 10km Abeokuta Race.

Speaking at a media parley with members of the Ogun State Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Olopade highlighted the impressive form of Nigerian runners and the significant interest in the race.

He revealed that over six thousand runners, including elite athletes, have registered to participate in the event scheduled for Saturday, September 28.

The organizers have implemented strict measures to ensure fair competition and prevent cheating. Medals will only be awarded to athletes who complete the race.

Olopade commended the Ogun State government for its efforts in promoting sports development in the state.

Mr. Seyi Johnson, the Project Manager, outlined the details of the race. The event will begin at Oloke and conclude at Ake Palace. To enhance the experience for spectators, various entertainment options will be available at strategic locations throughout the race route.

Johnson announced that the wheelchair race will start at 6:30 AM, followed by the able-bodied athletes' race at 7 AM.

Mr Wasiu Isiaka, the Commissioner for Sports Development, reiterated the state government's commitment to supporting the Lotus 10km Race and ensuring its success.
