NPFL: Former Flying Eagles star dumps relegated Sporting Lagos for Europe as he joins Swiss side
Swiss club Neuchâtel Xamax have secured the signing of former Flying Eagles and Sporting Lagos striker Paschal Onyekachi Durugbor, commonly known as Paschal.
The 24-year-old, who can play up front or on the attacking wings, has joined the club after impressing during a successful two-week trial period.
Nigerian star leaves Sporting for Europe
Paschal, who has previously had spells in Sweden, Tunisia and Libya, wasted no time in making an impact, scoring the opening goal in Neuchatel Xamax's 4-0 friendly win over FC Sion on Wednesday.
The versatile forward, who was a member of the Nigeria U20 national team in 2019, has now officially put pen to paper on a deal with the Swiss side.
Speaking on the signing, a delighted Neuchatel Xamax expressed their delight at welcoming Paschal to La Maladière.
'The club is delighted with his arrival and welcomes him to La Maladière after he completed a successful two-week trial at the club,' the statement read.
However, the length of the contract and financial details of the deal were not disclosed by the club.
Paschal's move to Switzerland marks his first experience in Europe since his spell with Swedish club Växjö BK in 2018.
The Nigerian striker then spent time in Tunisia and Libya before returning to his homeland and the NPFL in October 2023.
With his pace, versatility and eye for goal, Paschal will be hoping to make a significant impact in the Swiss Second Division and help Neuchatel Xamax earn promotion to the Super League.
After a whirlwind debut season in the NPFL, yesterday’s result confirms our relegation.
