The Crocodiles will be aiming to pull off one of the biggest shocks of the qualifiers as they take on the star-studded Nigerian side, who are desperate to keep their World Cup hopes alive.
What Sekhoane Moerane said
Speaking during the team’s media briefing ahead of the match, Moerane made it clear that Lesotho would approach the game with confidence and belief, not fear.
“Going into tomorrow’s game, we are not going to show fear because one thing we have to do is not to fear our opponents but give them respect,” the captain said.
He continued, “We will be going with a lot of respect but not showing fear, and that simply means we are going to give them our best, everything we have.”
The experienced goalkeeper, who plays a key leadership role in the squad, insisted that the Crocodiles are determined to make their country proud regardless of the opposition’s reputation.
“We are not doing anyone a favour. We are playing for our country, playing for Basotho. Every player knows what this means; it’s about pride and commitment,” he continued.
Lesotho seeking to recreate Uyo heroics
Lesotho surprised many in the reverse fixture in November 2023, when they held Nigeria to a 1-1 draw in Uyo thanks to a disciplined defensive display and sharp counter-attacks.
This time, however, the stakes are even higher. The Super Eagles, led by new head coach Eric Chelle, are chasing a must-win result after a frustrating qualifying campaign marked by too many draws.
