Newcastle officials were in Italy on Wednesday to seal a deal for Tonali and are confident the transfer will go through.
This is despite late interest from Chelsea who are seeking a new midfielder to complement Enzo Fernandez in Mauricio Pochettino's new-look midfield.
Newcastle begin summer spree with Tonali signing
Eddie Howe led Newcastle to Champions League qualification and has been vocal bout the club's need for high-level additions. Securing a talent like Tonali will be a major boost for the club and a splendid addition to the Magpies' midfield.
According to The Athletic, Newcastle will pay a total fee of £60m to sign the 23-year-old.

Tonali is regarded as one of the brightest midfielders in Italy and indeed Europe. He has been a revelation for Milan since joining in September 2020 on a season-long loan from Brescia.
The Rossoneri signed him permanently the next season and he was crucial in Milan's Serie A title triumph.
