Muhammadu Buhari: Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa mourns former president
Super Eagles captain, Ahmed Musa has joined millions of Nigerians in mourning the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who died on Sunday, in London at the age of 82.
His death was confirmed by family sources and his former spokesman Garba Shehu, sparking a nationwide outpouring of grief.
Buhari ruled Nigeria as a military Head of State from 1983 to 1985, and again as a democratically elected president between 2015 and 2023, making him one of the most influential and polarising leaders in Nigeria’s post-independence history.
What Musa said
In a heartfelt message shared on his official social media platforms, Musa expressed deep sorrow over the national loss, offering prayers for Buhari and sending condolences to his family and all Nigerians.
“To Allah we belong and to Him we shall return. Allahu Akbar all the living are dead.” Musa wrote, invoking the Islamic verse traditionally recited upon news of death.
He continued, “I am using this opportunity to send my condolences to the family and all the people of this country for the loss of the former president Muhammadu Buhari who died today Sunday.”
“May God have mercy on him and give us the fortitude to bear the loss. Amen. 💔🙏🕊️”
Musa, who captained the Super Eagles and remains Nigeria’s highest goal scorer at the FIFA World Cup.
