Mixed reactions as Manchester United refuse to let go of tainted star Mason Greenwood after shocking scandal
Manchester United have sparked fierce debate by including Mason Greenwood in their retained list for the 2024/25 season, over two years after he was first suspended amid disturbing allegations of abuse.
Greenwood, now 22, was arrested in January 2022 after audio and visuals emerged appearing to show him attacking a young woman.

While he was never charged due to "a combination of distressing encyclopedia evidence and victims" according to prosecutors, the evidence seemed to show deeply concerning behaviour.
"Our retained list has been announced following the conclusion of the 2023/24 season." the club stated on Twitter.
United's decision not to permanently cut ties with the gifted but tainted forward has prompted a storm of conflicting reactions from fans.
"Announce Ten Hag's staying!!! Announce Mason Greenwood's return!!" - Some jubilant United fans on social media welcomed the prospect of Greenwood resuming his promising career at Old Trafford.
"Mason Greenwood added back to the squad" - Other United accounts celebrated the potential on-field boost to Erik ten Hag's attacking options.
However, the move also drew fierce criticism:
"Keeping Greenwood have some shame" - Many condemned United's apparent prioritising of sporting ambitions over moral leadership on a vital societal issue.
"Finished club, 8th FC" - There were accusations the move devalued United's culture and principles as an elite institution.
While United have remained tight-lipped, the Greenwood situation has deeply polarised the club's fanbase since it happened.
Some view the retention as an enlightened "second chance" for a redeemable young man to rebuild his career and life.

Others see it as an unconscionable endorsement of accused abusive behaviour from a club seemingly prioritising results over values.
As Greenwood's future role remains uncertain, the intense debate over United's decision looks set to rumble on as a reputational crisis for one of the world's most scrutinised sporting brands.
The talented youngster made a successful return to football at LALIGA side Getafe, where he scored eight goals and assisted six more en route to winning the club’s Player of the Season award.
