The 23-year-old midfielder comes highly-rated and is already on the wish list of Barcelona, who are in the market to replace a player of their own in a similar position, Sergio Busquets.

What happened

According to GetfootballNewsItaly, the Rossoneri view Portuguese as an ideal replacement for their lost gem and have already established initial contacts.

Per the report, upon inquiry, Milan were informed that they had to pay €30 million for the services of the defensive midfielder, despite his reported €120 million release clause.

The Serie A giants could face competition from Barcelona, whose incoming sporting director, Deco, reportedly names Luis and Fulham's Joao Palinha as low-cost options to replace their former captain, Busquets, who has recently been announced as a new Inter Miami player.

With the windfall coming Milan's way from the Tonali sale, and Barcelona's complicated finances, the seven-time Champions League winners could be viewed as favourites to land their man.
