After being abducted by the National Liberation Army, also known as the ELN, at a gas station in Colombia close to the Venezuelan border, Luís Manuel Díaz had been held captive for 13 days.
After his father was abducted in Nigeria in both 2011 and 2018, former Chelsea midfielder Mikel Obi previously expressed his feelings to the former Porto player.

Following the release of Diaz's father, Mikel took to social media to celebrate.
He posted a message that said, "Glad your dad has been released I can relate to this feeling of Joy @luisdiaz19_"
