Doma United boss Akinade Onigbinde recently expressed his thoughts on his young striker, Chibuike Charles, who has a resemblance with SSC Napoli star Victor Osimhen.
Onigbinde spoke about the young forward after their penultimate game of the first phase of the NPFL abridged season against Rivers United on Thursday.
Doma, who sat third on the league table heading into that encounter, lost 2-0 to the defending champions before failing to make it to the Super 6 after another defeat on the final day of the season in Umuahia.
Osimhen lookalike has potential
Speaking on the forward, coach Onigbinde effusively acknowledged the potential of the 19-year-old, expressing optimism about his prospects.
He shared his belief in his ability as a promising striker but was quick to add that the youngster must remain humble.
“He’s not bad, he’s a very good striker, Onigbinde said.
“He’s just coming up and I believe if he can bring his head down, with the way he’s going, he’s going to be a good striker, a solid player.”
Charles' season
Charles netted three goals in what was a brilliant debut campaign for him and his club in the NPFL.
Sadly, his goals were not enough to fire his team to the Super Six (6) phase of the competition following another 2-0 defeat in the football league, this time to Abia Warriors on Sunday.
Doma United missed out on a place in the playoff by just a point after dropping two spots to fifth following two defeats in their final two games of the season.
Room for Improvement
Although Coach Onigbinde praised Charles' potential, he also highlighted the need for the young striker to bring his head down.
This suggests that Charles surely has some areas to improve upon, such as maintaining focus, discipline, or composure during games.
By emphasizing the importance of concentrating on his game and avoiding distractions, Coach Onigbinde implies that Charles can reach greater heights as his lookalike who recently inspired Napoli to their first Serie A title in 33 years.
Future Outlook
Coach Onigbinde's positive assessment and belief in Chibuike Charles' potential indicate that the young striker has a bright future ahead.
As Charles continues to develop and gain experience under the guidance of the coach, there is optimism that he can become a valuable asset to Doma United going forward.
In addition, if Charles can channel his abilities and maintain a strong work ethic, he has the potential to excel as a striker and emulate Osimhen in Europe.
