Manchester United vs Newcastle United EFL Cup final betting tips and odds

Manchester United will hope to end a six-year wait for silverware, while Newcastle United will hope their 54-year trophy drought comes to an end as both teams face off in the EFL Cup final.

Manchester United’s last domestic trophy was the EFL Cup under Jose Mourinho in 2016-17, and Erik ten Hag’s side have a chance at the trophy once again. The Red Devils are coming off a morale-boosting win over Barcelona in the Europa League playoffs and will look to cap off a great week with a win at Wembley.

Newcastle’s resurgence under Eddie Howe has been nothing short of phenomenal, and the Magpies will hope to win the EFL Cup to further strengthen belief at the club. The Magpies can win the EFL Cup for the first time as they hope to end an eight-game losing streak at Wembley.

Donny van de Beek, Christian Eriksen, and Anthony Martial are the absentees for Manchester United in this cup final.

Newcastle’s first-choice goalkeeper, Nick Pope, is suspended for the final after picking up a straight red against Liverpool in their last Premier League game. Second-choice goalkeeper  Martin Dubravka is cup-tied, as is Anthony Gordon.

This is poised to be a keenly contested affair, but we expect Manchester United to win in the end. The Red Devils are in better form going into the final and have just come off a morale-boosting win against Barcelona.

Newcastle will be without Pope, with Loris Karius poised to start as Dubravka is cup-tied, having featured for Manchester United in the same competition this season. This leaves the Magpies significantly weak at the back, a factor that is likely to affect the game due to United’s quality upfront. 

Newcastle have the best defense in the Premier League this season, conceding just 15 goals in 23 games, eight fewer than Arsenal, who have the second-best defensive record in the league.

Both teams will be cautious in this final, with the game expected to be decided by a small margin.
