Manchester United pick up their first trophy since 2017 with victory over Newcastle

Manchester United 2-0 Newcastle in the final of the EFL Cup. Sven Botman's own-goal doubles Manchester United's lead after Casemiro's header.

Manchester United players are now receiving their medals. Thirty medals will be handed to the club for only players that participated in the competition, ruling out Cristiano Ronaldo.

Captain Harry Maguire leads the Manchester United contingent as they climb up the Wembley stairs to collect their medals.

Newcastle players will hold their heads high when they remember this final. They put up a fight and were thoroughly competitive, however, for now, as they go up to pick up their medals, only sadness and dejection are translated on their faces.

What defending!!! Martinez rises to prevent Schar from making lethal contact with the ball to the detriment of both players, who are now being treated for a head injury.

Neither team has managed to get a proper foothold in the game, with both sides defending rigidly.

Karius will hope the shots he faces on the day continue to be tame like Anthony's attempt. The German shot-stopper easily catches Anthony's attempted curler before starting a counterattack.

Loris Karius already proving his doubters wrong, denying Wout Weghorst the opener.

Yellow for Diego Dalot only eight minutes in after the Portuguese fullback cynically stopped a counter-attack.
