Manchester United Edge Five-Goal Thriller Yet Again as Benjamin Sesko’s Late Strike Sinks Fulham
Benjamin Sesko netted a dramatic 94th-minute winner to give Manchester United a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Fulham at Old Trafford, lifting his side back into the Premier League's top four after a spirited comeback from the visitors.
Manchester United, enjoying a recent resurgence, started with clear intent. Early efforts from Amad Diallo and Harry Maguire tested the Fulham defence, while at the other end, Jorge Cuenca made a crucial intervention to deny Bryan Mbeumo.
The visitors, also in good form, soon threatened themselves, with Joachim Andersen forcing a save from Senne Lammens before Lisandro Martínez blocked a shot from Samuel Chukwueze.
The breakthrough came in the 20th minute. After a lengthy review overturned a penalty decision against Cuenca for a foul on Matheus Cunha, United were awarded a free-kick just outside the box. Bruno Fernandes delivered a perfect cross, and Casemiro rose highest to head the ball home, giving the hosts the lead.
Fulham Fightback But Still Lose
United remained largely in control for the rest of the half. While Chukwueze looked lively for Fulham, he couldn't find a way past Lammens. The United keeper was also called into action to save a long-range strike from Alex Iwobi, ensuring his team went into the break with their lead intact.
The home side's momentum carried into the second half, and they doubled their advantage in the 56th minute. Casemiro turned provider, sliding a precise pass through to Cunha, who finished emphatically past Bernd Leno. Fulham believed they had pulled one back shortly after when Cuenca scored from a scramble, but the goal was disallowed for a marginal offside against Chukwueze in the build-up.
As the game entered its final stages, the drama intensified. After substitute Benjamin Sesko hit the post for United, Fulham were awarded a penalty when Harry Maguire fouled Raúl Jiménez. The striker stepped up and converted the spot-kick to set up a tense finish. The comeback appeared complete in the 92nd minute when Kevin played a neat one-two with Ryan Sessegnon and curled a stunning shot into the top corner to level the score.
However, Old Trafford was sent into delirium just moments later. In the dying seconds of stoppage time, Sesko collected a pass from Fernandes and fired an unstoppable shot into the top corner, securing a third consecutive league win for Manchester United and reclaiming their spot in fourth place.
