Premier League club Manchester United have category denied suggestions that the club attempted to cover up allegations that Antony attacked his ex-girlfriend.

Manchester United and Brazil winger Antony is under police investigation over allegations of domestic violence against his ex-girlfriend Gabriela Cavallin.

Cavallin accuses Antony of headbutting and punching her in a Manchester hotel room in January resulting in a cut to her head and a breast implant being damaged.

Man United put out a statement on Wednesday, reacting to the situation: 

"Manchester United acknowledges the allegations made against Antony and notes that the Police are conducting enquiries.

 "Pending further information, the club will be making no further comments. 

"As a club, we are taking this matter seriously, with consideration of the impact these allegations and subsequent reporting will have on survivors of abuse."

The club also confirmed on Wednesday night that a member of staff at Man United arranged for a private doctor to visit Cavallin at Antony's request. The club then responded to rumours of a potential cover-up stating

: "Any suggestion that the club covered up these allegations is categorically false."
