Man United's youngest Premier League red card since 2015 — Nigerian Dorgu makes unwanted history

Manchester United defender Patrick Dorgu, a Danish-born Nigerian player, has etched his name into the club's history books for an unfortunate reason.

During a tense Premier League match against Ipswich Town, Dorgu became the youngest Manchester United player to receive a red card in the Premier League since Luke Shaw in February 2015.

At just 20 years and 123 days old, Dorgu's sending-off marked a new chapter in his career, albeit not the kind he would have hoped for.

The incident occurred when Dorgu's studs made contact with Omari Hutchinson's shins, prompting a VAR review.

Referee Darren England was directed to the Referee Review Area, where he ultimately decided to issue a straight red card.

This was not the only mishap for Dorgu during the match; he had earlier contributed to Ipswich's opening goal with a misplaced back pass.

Dorgu's red card not only marked a personal milestone but also resulted in a three-match ban for the young defender.

He will miss crucial domestic fixtures, starting with the FA Cup fifth-round tie against compatriots Alex Iwobi and Calvin Bassey’s Fulham.

Manchester United manager Rúben Amorim acknowledged Dorgu's mistake, stating that while any player can make such errors, Dorgu was perhaps too careless in his approach.

Despite this setback, Amorim believes Dorgu is ready for the Premier League, having shown promise in his initial appearances for the club.

The match itself was eventful, with Manchester United eventually securing a 3-2 victory over Ipswich Town.

However, for Dorgu, the focus now shifts to learning from his mistakes and returning stronger after serving his suspension.
