Major Boost for Nakuru Boxers as Hand of God Promotions Holds First Discovery Clinic
Budding boxers in Nakuru got a shot in the arm when they received not just free training but boxing gear at no cost from Hand of God Promotions.
Hand of God Promotions, which unveiled an ambitious three-year roadmap, dubbed 'Ndondi Mtaani', aimed at transforming Kenya's boxing landscape by developing talent from the grassroots level early this month, has wasted little time in rolling out the programme.
Nakuru was the first stop at the weekend with a successful ‘Ndondi Mtaani’ discovery clinic held at Kivumbini gym where a number of young fighters from the town got an opportunity to showcase their skills while receiving mentorship from top coaches.
The Kivumbini gym clinic featured sparring sessions, talent assessments with interviews with promising fighters, highlighting the strong boxing potential within Nakuru.
“We have been in boxing for long but never received support as big as this. Now that we have received this kind of support from Hand of God, we have hopes that the sport of boxing will go to the next level,” said boxer Kevin Muka, who was among the beneficiaries from the clinic.
Strategic Plan for Hand of God Promotions
Coach Roy Kovi, who was among those training the budding boxers, explained their strategy to unearth talent, saying: “We are going down to mitaani, taking boxing there and bringing up talent. Taking talent out from the village to the global heights.”
The strategic plan seeks to build a structured professional boxing ecosystem, create more opportunities for fighters, and ensure the sport becomes a sustainable career path. The initiative will focus on talent identification, comprehensive athlete development, and long-term financial stability for boxers.
This structured pathway is designed to provide clear competitive progression for fighters and increase exposure for emerging talents across the nation.
Hand of God Promotions will continue hosting weekly discovery clinics in select gyms in Nakuru as it builds momentum towards a major fight night set to take place within the town on May 1.
