Focus on Grassroots Talent Discovery

Speaking during the launch, Hand of God technical director David Mugambi said the company’s main objective is to identify boxing talent from the grassroots and ensure that athletes are supported to grow into professionals who can sustain themselves financially.

“We want to discover talent in the grassroots; we also want to make sure we allow them to commercialise the talent and make sure we sustainably build the ecosystem. Once they get to the top, we want them to make sure they can sustain their careers and sustain their families,” he said.

David Mugambi stressed that opportunity should be accessible to all aspiring athletes, regardless of background, as long as they are passionate and committed to the sport.

“The first thing about discovering talents is that everybody deserves a chance, your dream leads and everything you are doing, with passion, we shall be able to support it. Wherever you are, Hand of God will see you and discover your talent. We also want to promote you and take you to the world,” he added.

David Mugambi: From Counties to the World

Mugambi also outlined a phased development strategy that will guide the organisation’s growth over the next three years, beginning locally before expanding regionally and eventually internationally.

“We have a three-year plan. Starting this year, we are going to seven counties; next year, we shall be going regional, and of course, in the third year, we shall be doing international bouts. We are starting small and dreaming big. Hand of God is going to be the first Kenyan well-structured promotion company,” he added.

The plan is expected to create structured competition pathways for fighters while increasing exposure for emerging talent across the country.

Reuben Ndolo Backs Structured Growth in Boxing

Commonwealth Boxing Council president and chairman of the Kenya Professional Boxing Commission, Reuben Ndolo, also addressed the launch, praising the initiative and stressing the importance of improving the economic structure of boxing in Kenya.

He said structured promotion is key to ensuring fighters benefit financially from their craft and that the sport becomes more sustainable.

“I’ll give the promoters titles as the president of the Commonwealth. This is very important…it’s not just a name, it’s how you can improve and bring back the income of our boxers in the country,” he said.

The ‘Ndondi Mtaani’ roadmap is set to begin immediately with grassroots scouting programs across selected counties.
