Lokedi reveals reason for satisfaction with third-place finish at New York City Marathon
2022 New York City Marathon champion Sharon Lokedi went into Sunday’s edition of the race with the hope of defending her title but she was unsuccessful in accomplishing her mission.
However, she has disclosed that she is content with her third-place finish since she was not even expecting that result. She suffered an injury setback back in April and had to withdraw from the Boston Marathon.
The New York City Marathon was her first race this season and she expressed her joy having finished in the podium bracket and promised to do better next time.
“With the year that I’ve had, I think this is just a big win for me and for everybody that has seen how this year has been for me.
"It’s not a win but it’s third, so it’s still on the podium so I’m really happy about it and I’m really looking forward to building from here and even next year would be better,” Lokedi said.

She added that she started feeling better in September and disclosed that her training was not that comprehensive.
The 29-year-old also noted that finishing among the top three was her main goal and she was happy to have achieved the target.
Reigning Boston Marathon champion Hellen Obiri took top honours in the race as Ethiopia’s Letesenbet Gidey finished second while Lokedi completed the podium.

“I got better at around September and to be honest, I’m not 100% back and just getting this result, I’m very happy.
"Top three was my main goal and I am glad I achieved my target. It’s a big celebration,” Lokedi said.
