The battle for Wirtz's signature was between Liverpool and Bayern Munich, after Manchester City withdrew their interest.
Recent reports suggest the German international has chosen the Reds after taking a trip to England.
However, the transfer is far from complete, as Liverpool must now agree on a fee with Leverkusen.
Wirtz close to Liverpool move
Bayern Munich reportedly believe the 22-year-old Bayer Leverkusen player won't be joining the German champions, according to The Athletic.
The report suggests Wirtz has informed Bayern's management of his intention to move to Merseyside.
Leverkusen are expected to demand a significant sum for one of European football's brightest talents, with figures of around €150 million being discussed.
Last week, Wirtz visited England with his parents, where Liverpool presented their vision for the future, reportedly impressing the player.
The attacking midfielder is under contract with Leverkusen until 2027, and the German club hopes he will postpone his departure for at least another year.

The departure of Xabi Alonso to Real Madrid as manager, coupled with the expected exit of other key players, could influence Wirtz's decision.
Wirtz registered 18 goals and 20 assists in 49 appearances for Leverkusen last season, contributing significantly to their title win and earning him Bundesliga Player of the Season honours. This season, he recorded 16 goals and 15 assists in 45 matches.
