Liverpool Owners Move Closer to La Liga Club Takeover
The owners of Liverpool FC, Fenway Sports Group (FSG), are reportedly in advanced negotiations to acquire Spanish club Getafe.
The American group, led by John W. Henry, had reportedly scouted over 20 European clubs, including Malaga, before settling on Getafe.

FSG has completed its due diligence on the La Liga outfit and initiated talks, with CEO Michael Edwards, technical director Julian Ward, and head of football development Pedro Marques spearheading the operation.
Daily Mail: "The deal will likely be a formality"
"Discussions are productive," report both the Daily Mail and Marca regarding the status of the potential acquisition.
"There's no indication of what acquiring Getafe – owned by local businessman Angel Torres since 2002 – would cost, but if the Boston-based investors wish to proceed, the deal will likely be a formality," states the British tabloid.
Beyond Liverpool, FSG also owns the Boston Red Sox of Major League Baseball and the Pittsburgh Penguins of the NHL. Entering La Liga by taking over Getafe would mark the latest step in FSG's ambitious plans to expand its sports empire.
FSG bought Liverpool in 2010, but their first major triumph didn't come until 2019
FSG purchased Liverpool FC from former American owners George Gillett and Tom Hicks in October 2010.
While the Reds did secure the League Cup in 2012, they had to wait until 2019 for their first major trophy. Then-manager Jurgen Klopp guided them to Champions League glory that year, before clinching the Premier League title the following season.
Now, as reigning Premier League champions, having spent approximately £450 million (€514.9 million) on transfers this summer, they have re-established themselves as one of the biggest and most successful teams globally.
