In response to the disappointment, The Reds have now shifted their focus to strengthening their goalkeeping options with Mamardashvili, who made 37 appearances for Valencia last season, available for around £30 million.

Despite the eagerness to sign Mamardashvili, the plan is not to immediately integrate him into the first team but to either loan him back to Valencia or send him to another club for further development.

Alisson to keep No.1 spot

While Mamardashvili is seen as a potential long-term successor, Liverpool’s current goalkeeper, Alisson Becker, will continue as the undisputed first-choice goalkeeper for the upcoming season.

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has praised the strength of the squad he inherited and his reluctance to make unnecessary changes, mentioning this as a reason for the lack of transfer activity, and choosing to stick with Alisson is a clear indication that he truly believes this.

Given Mamardashvili's standout performances at Euro 2024, Liverpool can be confident that they will get one of the best goalkeepers in the world should they press on with signing the 23-year-old.
