He did two things to me in one game - Liverpool icon recalls unforgettable experience against Jay Jay Okocha

Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy and ex-Tottenham striker Darren Bent recently reminisced about Nigerian football legend Augustine "Jay Jay" Okocha in a social media video.

Pulse Sports Nigeria reports that Murphy and Bent sat down together to highlight the lasting impression Jay Jay Okocha left during his time with Bolton Wanderers.

Former Liverpool midfielder Murphy, in particular, shared a vivid memory of facing Okocha on the pitch.

"Jay Jay Okocha," he began, prompting Bent to chime in, "I remember him. I got his shirt."

Murphy then recounted a memorable encounter with the Nigerian star in a video shared by TalkSport: "I think I got one of his shirts actually.”

“The first time I played against him, I played against him a couple of times when he was at Bolton, and he's the only player who I've ever played against who did two things to me in one game."

The former Liverpool man went on to describe two remarkable moments of skill from Okocha, described by the man who brought him to the PL Sam Allardyce as his greatest-ever signing.

"The first one was a meg - and I have been megged by loads of players, but it was a lovely one and he got round a proper one. I thought, 'Uh, I've dived in, I've got to give this fellow some respect.'"

The second instance left Murphy even more astonished. "And the other one, he stuck in a corner and he scooped one over my head and got it the other side. You know it, you just raging. I couldn't get near him."

Murphy praised Okocha's versatility and positive attitude on the field, stating, "Mate, he had all sorts. He always played with a smile on his face. He had that freedom to try things that I wouldn't want to try in a game, and he could shoot."

The conversation between the two former Premier League players underscores the lasting impact Okocha had on his opponents and the league as a whole.

Known for his exceptional dribbling skills and flair, the Nigerian international who celebrated his 51st birthday on Wednesday became a fan favourite during his time at Bolton Wanderers from 2002 to 2006.
