LA 2028 Olympics Draw: Time and Where to Watch as Harambee Starlets Learn Qualifying Route
Harambee Starlets are set to learn their opponents for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games qualifying campaign on Wednesday afternoon.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed that the official draw for the African qualifiers will take place at its headquarters in Cairo, Egypt. A total of 35 nations will enter the draw, all vying for a spot at the prestigious tournament.
The extensive list of participating teams includes Kenya, Nigeria, Algeria, Angola, Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Comoros, Congo, Cote d’Ivoire, DR Congo, Djibouti, Equatorial Guinea, Ethiopia, Ghana, and Guinea.
Also in the running are Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Mauritius, Morocco, Namibia, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Seychelles, South Africa, South Sudan, Sudan, Tanzania, Tunisia, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
Grueling Five-Round Process
The qualification journey will be a grueling five-round process, at the end of which only two teams will secure their place as Africa's representatives at the LA 2028 Women's Olympic Football Tournament, scheduled from July 11 to 29, 2028.
Starlets have never been to the Olympics and missed out on the 2020 Tokyo Games after losing to Zambia in the qualifying rounds before being locked out of the qualifiers for the Paris 2024 edition following Kenya’s FIFA ban.
Nigeria hold a unique distinction as the only African women's team to have reached the quarter-finals of both the FIFA Women's World Cup and the Olympic Games, a feat they achieved at the Athens 2004 Olympics.
Time and where to Watch the Draw
The draw will be conducted at the CAF headquarters in Cairo, Egypt from 3pm (Kenyan time) and will be live on CAFTV.
