The second round of the Nile Special Sevens Championship will climax Sunday in Northern Uganda.

The Kitgum Sevens started Saturday despite reservations about the playing surface at the BOMA Grounds.

The pitch, filled with patches of bare ground, had to be filled with sawdust to ensure relative safety for the players.

And by the end of Day One action, all the contenders for the overall title moved a step closer to maximum points.

Marvin Odongo’s charges will face off at the quarter-final stage with Makerere Impis for a place in the semis.

Stone City Sevens runners-up Kobs also made it to the quarters and will face Rhinos for a place in the semis.

Platinum Credit Heathens will face Walukuba Barbarians, while defending champions Jinja Hippos have Buffaloes for company.

Pirates are the early pace setters in the season and will be looking to make it two circuits in a row.
