Kevin De Bruyne and 4 other players that publicly clashed with their managers
Kevin De Bruyne’s recent spat with Pep Guardiola shows that players clash with their managers for reasons best known to them.
There are several other players that have been involved in a row with their coaches which cost them their place in the team and eventually left the club.
Here are five players that have had a touchline spat with their coaches
1. De Bruyne and Pep Guardiola
Pep Guardiola has never hidden his admiration for his star player Kevin De Bruyne but the pair were seen exchanging words with each other during Man City’s 4-0 win over Real Madrid at the Etihad.
While the game was at 2-0, De Bruyne lost possession and Pep was not too happy about it as he raged at the midfielder, in return, the Belgian was caught on camera telling his manager ‘shut up.’
2. Kepa Arrizabalaga and Maurizio Sarri
The Chelsea goalkeeper and the Italian manager were practically arguing during the Carabao Cup final game between the Blues and Man City.
Sarri asked the Spanish goalkeeper to be substituted for Willy Caballero a few minutes away from penalties but Kepa refused and Chelsea lost the game. Kepa was slapped with a hefty fine and he lost his place as the number one.
3. Alex Ferguson and David Beckham
Beckham almost came to blows with Feggie in the dressing room shortly after Man United’s FA Cup loss to Arsenal at Old Trafford.
In David Beckham’s book titled ‘My Side’, the England legend narrated that while Sir Alex blamed him for one of the goals conceded, he kicked a boot at him that gave him a huge cut on his face.
Beckham was held back by his teammates as he attempted to attack his manager and from that very day, the winger worked his transfer out of Old Trafford to a sensational move to Real Madrid.
4. Paul Pogba and Jose Mourinho
During Mourinho’s last few months at Man United in 2018, the Portuguese gaffer and Paul Pogba barely had a relationship which affected the progress of the team.
A video surfaced online to prove the rumours were true as the pair exchanged words and had a stare at each other at United’s training ground at Carrington.
5. Lionel Messi and Luis Enrique clashing
The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner once criticized his former Barcelona coach Enrique in the dressing room for fielding a squad he did not believe was right after they lost to Celta Vigo.
Both player and manager did not speak to each for a while and nobody knew how to salvage the situation.
