Kenya vs Zambia: Why Harambee Stars Midfielder Wants Team to Maintain Humility

Ulinzi Stars vice-captain Boniface Muchiri has urged Harambee Stars players to remain humble ahead of their final group stage match against Zambia in the African Nations Championship (CHAN 2024).

Harambee Stars have been impressive so far, opening their campaign with a 1-0 victory over two-time champions DR Congo.

They then played out a 1-1 draw with Angola, a match in which the Video Assistant Referee was heavily involved right up to the final whistle.

In their recent match against Morocco, the Atlas Lions were the favourites to make a mark following their 2-0 opening victory over Angola, but they were silenced by Harambee Stars, who claimed a 1-0 victory.

Despite Harambee Stars’ recent exploits, Boniface Muchiri has urged the players to continue burning the midnight oil since they have so many other matches to conquer.

Boniface Muchiri pointed out that no one had believed they were going to win against Morocco, but added that today's football is different and they had to put their best foot forward, which eventually paid off with a win.

He added that as they gear up for a clash against Zambia’s Chipolopolo on Sunday, Harambee Stars should continue working hard and avoid letting their past victories get into their heads.

“I feel good, winning is good, but the improvement and performance from the team has greatly improved; it was not about luck. We deserved to win because if you see the shift we put out today, we deserved this win,” Boniface Muchiri said.

“Congratulations to the team, and we maintain the same focus ahead of facing Zambia. The atmosphere is great, everyone is doing great, but we have to remain humble and stay grounded…we have to avoid being carried away because we still have a lot of work to do. We need to be humble and work hard behind the scenes.”

Meanwhile, Zambia have struggled to win a match in their African Nations Championship (CHAN 2024) campaign.

They opened their campaign with a 2-0 loss against DR Congo before losing 2-1 to Angola. They face Morocco in their third group stage match on Thursday, August 14, before facing Harambee Stars on Sunday.
