Kenya Simbas captain exudes confidence ahead of Zimbabwe clash in Nakuru

The national men's rugby 15s, captain George Nyambua is bullish ahead of their clash with Zimbabwe Goshawks at the Nakuru Athletic Club (NAC) on Saturday, May 20.

Kenya Simbas will be looking for a win in their weekend’s Currie Cup First Division fixture against their opponents and Nyambua believes it is possible.

Their past encounters with Zimbabwe have yielded mixed results with their recent clash during last year’s Currie Cup First Division ending in a 22-21 narrow defeat.

“We are prepared for the game since we know how Zimbabwe plays. They are a good side and we can’t ignore what they bring to the table. We’ve been meeting at different stages and the scores were quite tight,” he said.

Simbas have played six matches so far and have only managed a 30-26 win over Border Bulldogs. Their recent loss was to Welwitschias where they were defeated 28-35 courtesy of a last gasp try.

They lost against table leaders EP Elephants 18-7, San Clemente Rhinos 33-22, and unfortunately gave away wins to Boland Kavaliers and Leopards via walkovers after arriving late for the first two matches.

Simbas will be keen to record their second win when they face-off against Zimbabwe who have lost all their six matches played.

Meanwhile, it’s all systems go for the Great Rift Valley 10-a-side tournament which will be making a return following a three-year hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The tournament has attracted top clubs including defending champions Menengai Oilers, Quins, Nondies, Impala, Western Bulls, and KCB among other teams.
