Abungana Was An Experienced Defender

Abungana’s death comes just days after he featured in Homeboyz’s FKF Premier League match against Mara Sugar last Saturday, when he played all 90 minutes.

The fullback joined Homeboyz in August 2025 ahead of the start of this season and had become a key member of the squad under coach Patrick Odhiambo.

Abungana previously played for Shabana FC and Gucha Stars and was part of the Tore Bobe squad that earned Premier League promotion in 2023.

He was released by Shabana in January 2024 and then linked up with his ex-coach Sammy Okoth at Gucha Stars, helping the side earn promotion to the second-tier National Super League for the 2025-26 season, before Homeboyz snapped him up.
