'I've Never Seen It Before'- Mikel Arteta Stunned as Arsenal Reach Champions League Final
Mikel Arteta described the Champions League semi-final victory over Atletico Madrid as a career highlight, praising the immense performance from both his players and the club's supporters.
His team delivered a near-flawless display at the Emirates Stadium to secure a place in their first Champions League final in 20 years.
The manager credited the passionate home crowd for setting the stage for the 1-0 win, noting that their energy was palpable even before the match began.
Mikel Arteta Reacts to Reaching Champions League Final With Arsenal
"It’s one of the best nights that I've had in my career," Arteta told the club’s media after the match. "I think today the supporters raised the standard and told us the way we had to play this game."
He was particularly struck by the reception the team received upon arriving at the stadium. "The way they received the team outside the stadium was unique…I've never seen it before. The energy that was created today in this stadium was something else; something different, something that elevates everybody's conviction, energy, passion, and I'm so proud."
Reflecting on the historic achievement, Arteta added, "It's been so many years, it's only the second time in our history that we've achieved the final. There are days that I don't know what I'm doing with this job because it's just mad! But when I was looking at the stands today, my players and the staff and see their joy and happiness and that light in them, everything we do makes sense."
The jubilant scenes at the final whistle provided a stark contrast to last season's semi-final exit at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain.
This year's victory was thoroughly earned, extending the team's unbeaten streak in the competition to 14 games, with 11 wins and three draws.
"The team was immense," Arteta continued. "We played a really, really tough opponent, and they have so much experience playing in this kind of competition and these kinds of games. The timing of the goal was perfect, I would say."
The manager acknowledged the fine margins in such a high-stakes encounter. "We had that moment as well where it could have gone their way, and in the last few minutes, I think we had to manage the game, and we did that really well. You could sense the energy that something magical was happening tonight, and then when the whistle went off, and you saw that reaction, it was wonderful."
With the celebrations set to be short-lived, the team's focus will quickly shift back to their Premier League title challenge, with a crucial away fixture against West Ham United on Sunday.
"Let's enjoy tonight," Arteta concluded. "And tomorrow we have to start to recover really well, get the batteries to the maximum again, and start to prepare for West Ham because that's a massive game."
